Color? Neckline? Style? Price? What’s trendy? Shopping for prom dresses is both exhilarating and exhausting. Keeping up with the latest trends is even more challenging, these are just some of the most popular prom trends for 2022.

According to Jovani, flowy dresses are trending this year. Beginning with a wonderful romantic chiffon feel, this year there have been lots of flowy styles. This style has lots of silk fabrics paired with chiffon and sheer layers.

Additionally, the touch of flowers on the garments create a sweet and comfortable result.

Another popular style this year is the boho look. Boho has become more and more popular throughout the years.

This style creates intricate embroidery and beading. Differently, compared to the other styles this year, these dresses have dull colors. The fit and style range from fit and flare, to mermaid, both being extremely flattering to all.

Completely opposing the other styles, Jovani states that a glam look has become popular this year. Consisting of sparkles, glitz, and glam, making the person wearing the garment the star of the show!

Ball Gowns and mermaids are the most popular styles seen in this trend.

Feathers are making a comeback this year. With fringe feathers, making a perfect opportunity to dance on the dance floor, fringe feathers create a dramatic effect for the wearer.

Along with these styles, a detail that has become very popular is a high slit. Slits in dresses allow the leg to peek through, creating a glamorous effect.

Party in the back! Everyone loves a stunning back, especially this year. Low backs, cross straps, and a cinched detail, are just some of the trends we have seen this year.

The low back creates a “WOW!” factor for a surprise fashion. With an additional bow, rhinestones, or cowl at the bottom, it can appeal to the wearer/ buyer and draw them to such details.

Last year, vivid blue, coral, and red were popular, but this year, orange, hot pink, and all shades of green are in demand.

Orange was a wonderful change for this year, and something many people haven’t seen much of previously. Bright orange and sequins added together created a jazzy touch to this year.

Hot pink began to trend last year, but has only grown in popularity throughout the year.

“I chose pink because a pop of color is always needed,” says senior Dori Theos who is wearing a hot pink one shoulder sparkly gown.

“I love pink because it adds something different to the mix.”

Forest and sage green are stunning colors to pair with sparkly shoes and accessories. Sage green is a newly viewed color in dresses, and flatters every skin tone.

For these students who wish to feel stylish and comfortable on prom night, classy, classic, sophisticated fashions offer a breathtaking impression of elegance.

This year this style has been trending even more with fabrics of silk and satin.

Senior Celia Frawley has a beautiful satin navy gown and states “I think my dress is timeless and classy.”

As previously mentioned, a cowl neck has stood this year as well creating a charm for the wearer. As worn commonly in the 1920s to signify grace and to show off your neckline as history repeats.

Corset and bustier designs have trended heavily this year and have been presented through prom dresses to showcase a gorgeous bodice.

Turning a corner, jumpsuits are quite the change and difference not seen often before. They are great ways to make a statement without wearing a dress.

Jumpsuits are extremely flattering and can add extra intricacy to an outfit and will certainly have a breathtaking effect. Paired with dazzling accessories and jewelry, a jumpsuit is a fresh approach to change the game at prom.

A neckline can completely change a gown. Some popular necklines seen this year are one shoulder, sweetheart, and plunge necklines.

An asymmetrical design will draw attention to the top of the dress. This one shoulder trend has skyrocketed throughout this year and last.

Plunging necklines can make a plain dress look unique and eye-catching.

Sticking to a classic timeless neckline, the sweetheart neckline remains popular.

“I like that I can wear a necklace with the neckline of my dress,” says senior Celia Frawley who is wearing a sweetheart neck, pairing it with a stunning necklace.

All of these amazing styles will be paired beautifully and create the perfect trends for this year.
