As the holiday season approaches, the Norwood High Madrigals remain busy with their upcoming performances.

So far the group has been featured in the Town Common tree lighting on November 28, as well as other caroling performances singing traditional Hanukkah and Christmas tunes.

With multiple December performances on the horizon, it is easy for the group to reflect on their new holiday season after covid.

Madrigals director Jennifer Hartnett feels the students are thrilled to be back to a more normal singing environment after their unconventional last season.

“I think they’re just happy to be back. I think they’re willing to do anything for the group. They work really, really hard and really pay attention to the camaraderie of the group” says Hartnett.

As for the recent and upcoming holiday performances, students in the Madrigals are hard at work preparing for the events.

Kallie McCann, a senior in the Madrigals says, “Iif everyone works together, it’s really easy and it’s super fun to have everybody together as a team. But it can really be stressful around this time.”

For some students, this holiday season performing in the Madrigals is their last. Kallie McCann remembers what led her to join Madrigals in the first place.

“When I was in elementary school, I saw them, like, perform and I was like, ‘Oh, I want to sing and do all, like the fun things that they do. When I got to high school and I got to be in their banquet, as, I mean like as a wench, but I still got to like experience and talk to and be friends with them. It made me really excited to strive to be what they are” she says.

While there are some differences in the group due to Covid, the Madrigals remain as strong as ever.

“I feel like I’ve gained more friends and, like, a family. Like every time I walk into that room, I can be myself. I can just be happy and I like that feeling of having people that are just always gonna be there for me and knowing that I have some sort of family there for me” says McCann.
