The NCA, NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship, also known in the dance community as the “Dance Superbowl, took place January 12-14th in Orlando, Florida. There are 3 different categories the college teams can compete under for a national title. They are Pom, Jazz, and Hip hop. Some of the most captivating (and viral) routines astounded viewers with their perfectly synchronized turns, leaps, and tricks.
Minnesota State performed its Pom routine perfectly and came out with the 2024 national title for Pom. In this routine, we saw perfect sharp lines and arm positions. as well as perfectly turned-out leaps and jumps. Most importantly let's acknowledge the amazing A La Seconds, which is a complex turn when your right leg is en l’air “in the air ” and goes around clockwise as you turn. This turn is very complex and takes a special dancer to pull this move off. This was a hard-hitting routine and we see exactly why this dance won first place.
Ohio State ate and left no crumbs with their rendition of “My Way” to take home the 2024 jazz national title. The emotions in this dance were off the charts, showing how the dancers care for what they are doing and the passion behind the dance. We see turns, jumps, leaps, and aerials There were a lot of fans who were disappointed in seeing Ohio State take home the W. Minnesota State fans were upset that their jaw-dropping, groundbreaking performance didn't win. Did the fall in the sectional round hurt Minnesota? I don't think so. The emotion in Minnesota's dance could not even come close to the emotion we saw in Ohio State's performance. But let's talk about the groundbreaking never before A La Seconds into an aerial right back into more A La seconds without putting their right leg “turning leg” down.
LSU Tiger Girls absolutely dominated the hip-hop game and took home the 2024 national first-place title for hip-hop. They performed the 2012 rendition of “Smooth Criminal.” If you have been on Tick Tock recently you have definitely seen the dance. The lines, the picture, the choreography is perfect. The Tiger girls hit every move in complete unison. The movements were sustained and also clean as can be. Overall it was an amazing weekend for the dance community and the college dance association.
