Fuego is bringing the heat to Norwood. Austin Henry/The Mustang Gazette

Norwood Common has long lacked the presence of Mexican food, but with the opening of Fuego, this issue has been resolved.

The restaurant is located directly across from Norwood Common on 643 Washington Street in downtown Norwood.

The outside of the restaurant has a simple but enticing appearance that draws you in like a moth to a flame.

The second you enter Fuego, aromas captivate your nose and inform you that you are in for a treat. When I walked in, I was greeted by the worker behind the counter with much hospitality.

Life begins to slow as you study the menu in the debate about what you shall order. The menu is a display of countless items including bowls, burritos, quesadillas, tacos, salad, and entree nachos. I believe the bowls are the star item. When I stepped up to the counter my eyes lit up with excitement upon seeing the freshly cooked grains, meats, and vegetables laid out before my eyes.

I chose a bowl and selected steak, mixed sauteed vegetables, corn, lettuce, and cheese. When putting these items in the bowl I did not feel cheated as the worker provided plentiful scoops of ingredients to my dish. When I reached checkout I was astounded to discover that my meal only cost $10.61 which is a great deal for how fresh the ingredients were.

When I reached a bench outside of the restaurant I uncovered my bowl like a pirate opening a treasure chest. I stared at this culinary gold.

I stabbed the food with my fork intending to get each flavor in one forkful and then I plunged the food into my mouth. My eyes lit up as if they were the New York City skyline and my mouth danced as it uncovered each morsel of food. The most memorable part of the bowl was the cheese that simply melted away in my mouth and the steak that was tender and flavorful.

Marveled by this experience I returned to the restaurant to ensure it was not a one-hit-wonder. I ordered the same meal. Fuego lived up to my expectations and provided consistency in the quality of their meals.

I would strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone and would assign it a 10/10, but before you go prepare your palate for astonishment.
