There are many different holidays that are celebrated by people around the world. Some of them include Christmas, Hanukkah, Chinese New Year, Ramadan, and Diwali. Some of these holidays are celebrated at NHS by the students and staff.

Foreign Language teacher Mrs. Scannell celebrates Christmas in two different ways.

“I am Brazilian and in my culture, it is the 24th. Christmas Eve is more important than Christmas Day itself and we do a big celebration on Christmas Eve,” Mrs. Scannell said

However, like many families, the celebrations can go on for a few days.

“Also, Christmas Eve is more important than Christmas Day, and so we chill on Christmas Day and open presents, then my husband's side celebrates it on Christmas Day,” said Mrs. Scannell.

Freshman Aaron Wong celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year with his family.

“We do incense, pray, so there’s that part, and then usually they[his family] gamble which is funny,” said Wong.

English teacher Dr. Mullaney celebrates Christmas with a traditional family picture.

“When I was younger, even when we stopped believing in Santa, my mom would always make us run into the living room toward the tree and she’d take pictures of us doing that. So there were pictures of me at like 18, 19, 20 [years old] running toward the tree with my sisters” said Dr. Mullaney.

Cafeteria worker Ms. Leduc celebrates Christmas with a traditional family Christmas party.

“We have a pretty large Christmas Eve party that’s been going on [for] over 20 years now and then we pick [on] the food and then on Christmas afternoon we have a huge dinner,” said Leduc.
