As the holidays are around the corner, many families in Norwood decorate their homes to show off their holiday spirit.

Decorating for holidays is a widespread tradition that brings families, towns, and communities together. Making your house look extra special for the holidays is exactly what's needed to bring a smile to the students at NHS.

Some families have decorated their houses for the holidays for over a number of years intended to make people feel the holiday joy.

“My family has been decorating for over 30 years and started when my mom first came to the states. We normally start decorating early on November 2nd right after Halloween. It’s a great tradition that brings my family closer each and every year. It's more leading to my mom's happiness as she loves to decorate for Christmas inside and outside our house. In my opinion, I love the way it looks on the final outcome,” said Gen Claudio, a sophomore at NHS.

Although the pandemic is still on the rise, this did not stop Gen’s family from keeping their tradition alive.

“Last year Covid did not have a drastic impact on how much we decorated inside but definitely changed some things we did to decorate the outside of our house. We still did a lot inside and it’s insane how crazy it was. This year we went all out and I was so happy with the results,” said Claudio.

The students as well as the town members enjoy seeing houses going all out.

“My favorite part about seeing the decorations up is at night when you can see all the Christmas lights, inflatables, wreaths, and candles in the windows all lit up,” said freshman Willow Ogle.

Light displays and other decorations in the center of town have recently been put up for the annual activities to come. A display of a nativity scene and Christmas tree that was a new addition this year located right by the gazebo.

“The tree that was recently put up was an awesome addition to all the surrounding lights. Seeing the lights up around town is a special occasion since this only happens a few weeks out of the entire year,” said Ms. Keady, a staff member here at NHS.

The overall experience not just for the families decorating but for people around town too definitely brings people together as they get ready for the holidays.

“It definitely brings people closer together and creates more of a festive mood for the holidays. Driving by seeing at night seeing all the lights lit up always makes me filled with joy, spirit, and overall looks very pretty,” said Ms. Keady.

With these light displays up it's a perfect opportunity to take a stroll around town to see all the hard work from your community. The town has numerous extravagant houses to take a look at.
