The Mustangs run out of time against the Clockers

The Mustangs felt confident about their match-up against the Ashland Clockers but on the afternoon of Oct. 25 they took a big loss, losing 42-13.

The beginning of the game looked promising with a pick-six by sophomore cornerback Jonathan Montilla and gave the Mustangs their only lead of the game. At the beginning of the game, it seemed like the offense couldn’t get the passing game going with an interception thrown by junior quarterback Jason Denehey. The Mustangs had to rely on the run game which worked for the first quarter but got very predictable and didn't fare well for the offense the rest of the game.

But it wasn't just the offense that struggled but also the defense and special teams struggled as well. Spectator Dylan Burgess thought that the most contributing factor to the loss was the special teams: “It is definitely the special teams- they lost the ball like, three times,” he said.

The defense made several coverage errors leading to open touchdowns, big gains and many missed open-field tackles. The special team lost the ball many times which led to the defense being on the field for long periods of time and getting no break to rest and compose themselves which all led to the blowout.

On November 1, 2019 the Mustangs faced Silver Lake Regional and lost 35-14, kicking them out of the tournament.
