A representative to remember

Leading into March of 2022, President Biden held onto a promise he made during his election campaign. Biden pledged to even out the diversity of the Supreme Court justices and nominate a black woman to be among the members of the supreme court.

The name just being released is Ketanji Brown Jackson. As a credible attorney, a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals, and a Harvard law school graduate, I think Ms. Jackson has a chance.

Since Biden kept this promise, the process of welcoming another minority to the justices is in progress. This will spread awareness and help advocate for all people of color in the U.S. As for the rest of the people in the United States, President Biden's agenda will be shown and supported by his nominee. This includes running background checks on gun sales, reinstating voting rights to convicted felons, and helping families support their children’s journeys into college. As well as many more. But there is still a lot of controversy on the topic.

Norwood high’s senior civics teacher Mrs. Uppenkamp definitely has an opinion when it comes to  U.S civics.

Mrs. Uppenkamp believes.”We have had hundreds of supreme court justices and none of them have been black women, so it’s about time we have some new perspectives on the court.”

Uppenkamp made a point of saying she fully supports the decision made by our president. This woman the president has selected will represent him in multiple ways to multiple audiences such as Biden supporters and the black community. Ms. Jackson may even be someone young women in the world idolize and aspire to be like one day.

However, some people feel that others should also be given a chance at the nomination because they see it unfair for it to be limited to women of color. These people think that Biden’s horizons should be expanded past the boundaries of gender and color and that once he does this he could possibly find a more suitable fit for the position.

It is clear that Ms. Jackson can provide a lot of benefits to people in the U.S. As she will be supporting the ideas of president Biden. These ideas will create a safer country as well as a more supportive college system. Then to top it off, welcoming a minority to a position of power in the country is always a good thing.

This boost of diversity will most definitely have an effect on how things are perceived in the Supreme Court, as there will be a new person with different ideas who now have a say in things.

Have faith in Biden’s selection. I think Ms. Jackson will do great things.
