For the past school year, Elizabeth Colahan’s Senior Life and Literature classes and Stephanie Andrew's 1st-grade class at the Oldham Elementary School have been corresponding as pen pals.

The senior pen pals have been communicating with the 1st graders writing about what they like to do, sports, games, hobbies, and more. Each senior has been assigned to one 1st grader.

Senior Michael Colomey was assigned to a first-grader named Noah. According to Colomey, their conversations were “mainly chill” and one of the first things they talked about is what Noah liked to do at home.

“Noah likes to play video games and play basketball outside,” said Colomey.

Conversations mostly revolved around sports. Most of the first graders loved sports and liked talking about them to the seniors.

Senior Ben Kelley and his pen pal Bobby’s conversations mostly revolved around sports.

“We mostly talked about baseball because he loves playing baseball,” said Kelley.

As a culmination of this project, the seniors visited the Oldham to meet their pen pal in person on May 15. They all seemed to be very excited to finally meet their pen pals.

Senior Emily Lowe was very excited to meet her pen pal Lucy.

“I’m very excited to meet Lucy and conversate in person because we’ve only been communicating through letters,” said Lowe.
