The Mustangs Stampede Over The Competition

Norwood high school sports started off strong this Winter season with every varsity sport winning their opening match-ups. While the opening weekend streak has ended, Norwood high sports have continued their dominance.

Wrestling started off the year with winning their first three matches starting with Taunton, winning 45 -18; then Carver by 36 -24 and lastly versus Watertown winning 51-21. Joe Phillips, a senior on the wrestling team reacted to the wrestling team going 3-0 and Norwood High School going 10-0. “I like the streak and I hope it keeps going'' he said. Spectator Robbie Jandrue, a senior, reacted to the streak too and said: “I feel like it gives a positive vibe in the school which is great.”

Next, it was basketball’s turn to take on Dover-Sherborn during their opening weekend with the girls winning 51-27. The boys won a close one by making a late three to win Kristen McDonnell’s first varsity basketball game 53-51. Both boys and girls have only one loss combined and are currently ranked top 10 in Massachusetts.

Medway got a shot to stop the streak but girls hockey made sure to keep it alive beating Medway 5-2 during their opening weekend. Boys Hockey beat the Ashland Clockers 6-3 with Harry Gover scoring a hat trick leading the stangs to victory, propelling Boys hockey to number 2 in division 2 south.

The boys and girls indoor track team went against Ashland with both teams winning. Boys won 64-22 and girls won 54-32. 

Last but not least, winter sports opening weekend ended with the swim and dive team beating Dedham High 100-86 to finish off the 10-0 streak.

Overall, the winter sports season has created a positive vibe throughout the school and Brady Stanton who is a senior on the track team talked about the energy throughout the school saying, “It feels good to be winning, and when you are winning everything is better so when you are at school it makes everything a little more enjoyable.”  

Although the winning streak has ended with girls basketball losing 39-30, the Mustangs have continued their dominance going 22-7-2 after the 10-0 streak.
