Resumo
Os efeitos de primazia e de recência obtidos na curva de posição serial foram objecto de um grande número de investigações nos anos sessenta e setenta. Nessa altura pensava-se que os efeitos da posição serial representavam processos dependentes quer da memória a curto prazo quer da memória a longo prazo. Trabalhos recentes puseram em causa estas investigações mais tradicionais, tendo sido sugeridas explicações alternativas. Este estudo é uma tentativa de revisão da literatura de modo a esclarecer as diferentes interpretações dos efeitos de posição serial e a importância de que se revestem na investigação da memória humana.
Abstract
Primacy and recency effects obtained with the serial positions curve were subject to a great number of studies in the sixties and seventies. At the time it was thought that serial position effects were the results of processes related to either short or long-term memory. However recent studies have questioned such interpretations and suggested new explanations of the serial position effects. This study was an attempt to review the literature in order to describe some of the most relevant explanations of serial position effects, and to examine the importance of the serial position curve for understanding human memory.
