Copas allegedly shot the driver in the head with a "silver and brown gun" before the vehicle crashed into road barriers and came to a stop on US-54 close to Loop 375. The incident didn't take place close to a bridge, port of entry, or any other area with urgent danger, according to police charges.

According to the police, neither Piedra's departure from the Copas Uber route nor evidence of a kidnapping are supported by their investigation, according to KTSM. The driver's wife, Ana, made this statement in an internet post. "Her passenger of hers shot her in the head because she believed he was kidnapping her and taking her to Juárez, which was not the case," she claimed. Daniel was merely adhering to the Uber app's route.

According to the ride-hailing company, both drivers and customers may view the route that Uber assigns to drivers on their phones. Additionally, Uber gives users the option to share their whereabouts with friends or family members. Copas snapped pictures of the bloodied and hurt man before dialling 911 to get assistance from the authorities.

Copas' unnamed boyfriend drove her there to be picked up, and when police came, they say he was assisting her get out of the car.
