A man has been charged with one count of murder in connection with the shooting and death of a lady passenger in a car he accidently drove into her driveway in a remote part of New York. According to the indictment, Kevin Monahan, 65, is accused with second-degree murder, reckless endangerment, and tampering with physical evidence.

Monahan was arraigned on Wednesday and entered a not guilty plea, the court informed CNN. Monahan's lawyer has been contacted by CNN for comment. In Washington County, roughly 55 miles north of Albany, Monahan is accused of opening fire on a car full of people, including 20-year-old Kaylin Gillis, when they inadvertently turned into his driveway last month.

Gillis' boyfriend Blake Walsh claimed to have been behind the wheel the night they veered off course. In a phone conversation with NBC, he admitted that he was looking for a party with two of his buddies, his late girlfriend, and them. Another car with four pals also went through the incorrect entry. Walsh told NBC, "We thought we were going in the right path.

"We lacked cell service to address it. We started to leave as soon as we realised we were at the wrong spot, and that's when everything happened. At a bond hearing last month, the court ordered the return of Monahan to police custody. According to an earlier CNN article, prosecutors demanded that Monahan be sent to police custody without bond because of his obsessive and confrontational personality.

Kurt Mausert, Monahan's lawyer, said during the court that his client should have been granted pretrial release because he had lived in the area for more than 30 years and had never been detained or found guilty in the state of New York. The sheriff's account of what happened has been contested by the attorney, who said that numerous automobiles were revving their engines and moving up the Monahan driveway at "high speed."

Andy Gillis, the victim's father, demanded accountability and praised his daughter as a "smart, kind, and loving" young lady with aspirations of becoming a marine biologist or veterinarian. After Monahan's bail hearing in April, Gillis said, "For this man to sit on his porch and shoot a car with no threat is just... (that) makes me so angry, and I just hope to God that he dies in jail." Kaylin is deserving of justice. On July 28, Monahan is anticipated to make a court appearance. The start of his trial is anticipated for September.
