According to court documents, 32-year-old Chad Doerman, the father accused of killing his three young sons in Clermont County, had previously been charged with domestic violence for allegedly choking his father in 2010. After the putative victim, identified as Keith Doerman, father of Chad Doerman, failed to show up as a prosecution witness, the case was ultimately dismissed.

When the allegations were brought in July 2010, the elder Doerman was 46 years old. According to docket files, Chad Doerman entered a not guilty plea to domestic violence on July 26, 2010. August 26 of that year saw the dismissal of the case.

Prosecutors in Clermont County have accused Chad Doerman of three charges of aggravated murder after alleging that he lined his kids up and shot them one by one with a firearm. One of the boys made an attempt to leave, running in the direction of a field close to the family's Monroe Township house.

At a Friday arraignment, David Gast, the criminal division director for the Clermont County Prosecutor's Office, stated that Doerman "hunted" the running youngster and brought him back to the residence where he was shot dead.

According to court records, Chad Doerman previously appeared in the Clermont County court system around a dozen times. The majority were for moving offences, such as not wearing a seatbelt while driving or operating a vehicle dangerously; the most recent of these charges was in 2022.
