An English couple who struggled to get their infant son back from child services and then beat him so badly the 10-month-old died just over a month later were sentenced to life in prison for murder on Friday in what a judge called a case of "unimaginable cruelty." According to court records, the boy was removed from the marijuana-smoking couple shortly after his birth in February 2020 because social workers believed he would suffer "significant harm" in their filthy Chesterfield house and because Boden had a history of domestic violence.

Boden and Marsden pleaded with a family court to have the child returned, calling him "perfect" and a "cuddly, chunky munchkin." The judge ruled that he might return part-time at first, and then full-time. There had been a conflict between the guardian, who desired an earlier transfer of custody to the parents, and the local social service authority, which preferred a lengthier transition.

The pair urged the court to quickly return the boy, and Boden assured it that they had "worked really hard to make changes." According to Simon Kealey, Boden's attorney, there was no "sadistic motivation" behind the murder. Finley's parents did not request him return in this instance in order to carry out his murder, according to Kealey. "

His parents did nothing to relieve his misery despite the fact that they could see it. Even though they knew it wasn't true, the two managed to keep social services away by claiming they felt he had COVID-19. They were "skilled and persuasive liars," according to Justice Amanda Tipples.
