A guy has been detained and accused of attempting to set fire to Mary Todd Lincoln's childhood home in Kentucky, the wife of President Abraham Lincoln. According to the citation of arrest acquired by WDKY, Santosh Sharma, 29, was observed by a Lexington police officer on Thursday with a lighter in hand and actively pouring petrol at the back of the historic property, located on West Main Street in downtown Lexington.

Sharma allegedly had extra petrol in a bag strapped to his back, according to authorities. Sharma hurled a hammer at the police officer when the officer challenged him. Although there is no mention of a physical struggle between the two in the citation, the officer did remark that the hammer put him in danger.

Sharma allegedly entered the closed and gated fenced area at the back of the Mary Todd Lincoln House. Following his arrest, he was lodged at the Fayette County Detention Facility. According to jail records, he is accused of making threats, second-degree criminal burglary, and second-degree attempted arson.

It's unclear why Sharma wanted to set the house on fire. In 1832, the family of Mary Todd Lincoln, who was born in 1818, moved into the home. She stayed there up until 1839, when she moved out to live with her sister in Springfield, Illinois, where she would later meet Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. In 1847, she brought her husband to see her family at their house in Lexington.
