"People should feel safe in our community and not have to worry about looking over their shoulders whenever they go to the bank or run errands," Ogg said in a statement after the sentencing hearing. This offender chose to enter a guilty plea because "our organised crime division was ready and willing to go to trial."

Zy'Nika Woods, 19, was also detained and charged with aggravated robbery resulting in serious bodily injury in the attack on Troung. Woods was Harrell's co-conspirator in the assault. She agreed to testify against Harrell in exchange for her guilty plea to a lesser charge of robbery resulting in bodily harm. She takes it up and tries to go, but Harrell grabs her by the back, lifts her up, and throws her to the ground before running away.

Slammed her to the ground like a bag of potatoes.Troung sustained a spinal injury that left her legs paralysed in addition to multiple broken ribs.

Assistant District Attorney Sean Kozar-King, who handled the case's prosecution, said in a statement on Thursday that the victim was "going about her daily routine" and had taken money out of the bank to visit her family in Vietnam when the attacker struck. Not only did he steal a sizable sum of money, but he also rendered her permanently paralysed. How long she will require a wheelchair is still unknown.
