John Heathco and Abby Lutz Cause of Death

A few days later, we were informed that they were feeling considerably better. They had died quietly while sleeping in their hotel room, according to a phone call we got. The family's GoFundMe page states, "We have been told it was due to improper venting of the resort and could be Carbon monoxide poisoning."

The hotel, which is owned by the American business Hyatt, has not responded to the suggestion that carbon monoxide may have contributed to the couple's demise.
Police believe they died from suspected gas inhalation, although an autopsy has not yet determined the cause of death.

How long the couple had been dating and how long they were supposed to be in Mexico are also unknown. There have been numerous additional incidents of travellers passing away from carbon monoxide poisoning inside hotel rooms. A Florida couple passed away in June of last year while on vacation at a Sandals resort in the Bahamas. Three further visitors perished in Mexico City while residing in a leased flat in November. Carbon monoxide poisoning was the reason for their demise.

The general manager of the hotel claimed they were "heartbroken," albeit Hyatt has not yet replied to the allegation regarding the ventilation and how it might have contributed to their deaths. "This terrible tragedy has left us utterly heartbroken." During this unfathomable loss, "our hearts are with the impacted families and loved ones," she stated.
