A Texas couple, who were about to celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary, died after their air conditioner failed during a scorching heat wave. Monway Ison, 72, and Ramona Ison, 71, were discovered dead on June 16 at their Baytown home, next to the body of their pet dog. After weeks of high temperatures, their air conditioner unit failed just four days before the couple died.

The Isons allegedly attempted to obtain a loan for the following week in order to repair the air conditioner since they lacked the funds to cover the repair charges, which are estimated to be between $1,400 and $1,600. Unfortunately, the loan was approved on June 15, and by the time the repairman reached at the couple's house the next day, they were already dead and being examined by medics.

Monway and Ramona Ison Cause of Death

On June 16, the bodies of Monway and Ramona, as well as their dog, were discovered inside their Baytown mobile home. "They kind of never had to spend the day apart," Roxana Floods, their daughter, explained. According to medical examiner's office records, Monway and Ramona's deaths are two of at least seven in Harris County that have been related to heat since June, according to ABC13. "It's been a disaster for our family."

"The heat isn't a joke," Floods explained. Eddie Phillips, a friend and neighbor, reported that the pair was always thinking of others.Ramona routinely transported the friend to his doctor's visits because he didn't have a car. In exchange, he offered to help the couple. He offered to let them stay in his place. He offered the couple a portable air conditioner, but they declined. "

They wouldn't take it," he explained.Floods reported that her father had mobility issues, which she believes made him hesitant to leave the house. "I think that played a part," Alexandra Seeser, the couple's granddaughter, said, adding that the couple often felt like a burden. Floods went on to say that her mother spent some of the money on fans.

Furthermore, the daughter stated that because the pair grew up without air conditioning and were used to working in the heat, "they thought it would be OK."The medical examiner pronounced the couple dead inside the house as the repairman arrived that day to make repairs. "They were packing their belongings to leave. The way they were discovered, I believe they thought it was too hot and it was time to depart, and it was simply too late.

"I've read about how disorienting the heat can be at that point, how exhausted you can feel, what to look out for, and I don't think they really knew what to look out for," Floods explained. She hopes that sharing her parents' story may prevent more people from dying as a result of the extreme heat. According to ABC13, she stated, "Everyone that I talk to, I tell them to tell their parents, 'Don't be too proud to ask for help.'"
