Ramon Flores and Kassandra Aguayo Incident Detail

Aguayo was swiftly identified as a person of interest in the investigation by detectives from the department's Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit, and they were able to secure a warrant for her arrest. On November 18, 2022, deputies from the Hale County Sheriff's Office spotted Aguayo in a home in Plainview's 500 block of West 5th Street and arrested her for Flores' slaying.

Aguayo was initially lodged in the Hale County Detention Facility before being turned over to law enforcement and taken to the Lubbock County Detention Facility, where she has been held since her arrest. According to a copy of the probable cause affidavit acquired by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Aguayo allegedly gave a friend a detailed account of how she killed Flores, who then told police about it.

Investigators thought Flores knew his attacker, according to the article, because there were no indications of a forced entry into the residence. According to a family member, Flores was on the phone with them on November 1.10 when they overheard a woman's voice and noticed that Flores seemed astonished by the sudden visitor, promising the family member he would call them back. According to reports, the family member said that Aguayo was probably the visitor to Flores' house.

Until February 2022, she had previously shared a residence with Flores, according to Lubbock, Texas ABC station KAMC. Aguayo allegedly told police she was working at the Lubbock State School all day and into the night on November 10 when in fact, according to records, she never showed up for work that day and gave no explanation.

Aguayo allegedly admitted to killing Flores by repeatedly stabbing him in the torso after attempting to suffocate him, according to a different witness who apparently alerted authorities about the incident. The warrant allegedly stated, "She told [the witness] she had put a bag over his head, and when that didn't work she stabbed him in the stomach."

She claimed that the knife had broken, prompting Aguayo to restab him with a different knife from the kitchen. The witness added that Aguayo did not leave the site right away. According to the warrant, "She told him she had watched Ray to make sure he died." Aguayo is still being held under a $500,000 bond, according to records.
