Mendes was discovered by the Boston Police Department in the South End of the city on Monday at about 10:30 a.m. In Roxbury, the suspect was close to Massachusetts Avenue and Chesterton Street. The theft of the pickup vehicle happened on July 14 in Dorchester.

Police were informed by a family that they had stopped near Geneva Avenue to care for their 2-year-old child, but the suspect had jumped into their car and was speeding off. The kid was in the car seat when the suspect eventually returned and left. The baby was still in the car seat when the suspect left 430 Geneva Avenue, according to a prior press release from Boston Police Department. "

Moments later, the suspect returned to 430 Geneva Ave. and placed the infant, who was still in the car seat, on the sidewalk," the press release continued. The suspect then drove off in the stolen truck in the direction of Bowdoin Street. "The infant was reunited with the parents, and Boston EMS responded to evaluate the infant," the police said. Later on, the truck was discovered at 156 Columbia Road. Police have requested assistance from the public in finding the suspect.
