This week, four days after the car was taken from the scene of a horrific collision, the body of a Wisconsin kid was found inside the wreckage of a vehicle. According to FOX 6, Milwaukee resident James Stokes, 17, was discovered dead on the floor of the rear seat of a battered white Kia on Monday morning in a public parking lot.

The car, which was found to have been stolen, was involved in an accident with a tree at North 91st Street and West Fond du Lac Avenue on June 1 evening, according to a statement from the Milwaukee Police Department. The car's 16-year-old male driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds before being taken into custody.

The 17-year-old's cause of death is being investigated by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office, according to the police. The Department of Public Works and MPD are both looking into how Stokes' body remained unnoticed right now. "This is supposed to be a multi-layered approach so that these kinds of things don't happen," lawyer William Sulton told CBS 58.

"When automobiles arrive at the tow lot, we have a different set of guidelines and obligations that apply to the tow lot police. Until they are certain that a search has been done, they cannot process or release the car. The finding of Stokes' body makes Milwaukee police tow a vehicle with a person inside for the third time in the past five years.

A four-year-old daughter spent the night in the parking lot by herself in 2018 after her mother was detained for driving while intoxicated, according to FOX 6. Then, in 2022, a burnt-out car was taken away by the Milwaukee Fire Department, but hours later a parking attendant discovered human remains inside the vehicle. Following the incident in 2018, Sultan acted as the family of the 4-year-old's legal representative in their settlement with the city.
