Vanessa Lavaty was first accused in a first-degree solicitation case, but a week before trial, she accepted a deal and admitting to trying to kill someone. She consented to serve between four and sixteen years in prison in exchange. Her destiny will be decided by El Paso County Judge William Moller at a later time.
Timothy Hanes was the target of Vanessa Lavaty's ferocious assassination attempt. She reportedly told her live-in partner Marty Jorgensen, "I want his a- buried," according to documents obtained by The Gazette. Additionally, she added, "I really want this f—- dead."

She said that Hanes should be "six feet under." Hanes informed KRDO that Lavaty had attempted to kill him because they were planning to split custody of their daughter 50/50. It's been quite challenging," Hanes added. "I haven't slept well or gone a night without clenching my teeth because I was afraid a tree branch would break in the yard.
