After discovering his grandmother's lifeless body inside his house, the grandmother's estranged husband was charged with murder. After a worried relative alerted authorities, Christine Rakic, 53, was discovered in the family's former investment house in Rooty Hill, in western Sydney, on Tuesday night.

Her ex-husband Dusan Rakic  was also discovered at the site with injuries to his arms and throat but was unable to save her. Rakic  was transported to the hospital under police protection and was in a severe condition while in an induced coma.

He was charged with murder, violating a domestic violence-related AVO's prohibition or limitation, and breaching bail on Friday morning. After being denied bail, he will appear in Mount Druitt Local Court later on Friday. About a year prior, Rakic had moved into the home on Rooty Hill. Until his marriage to his wife of twenty years ended, it was rented out.

The couple had been talking with a real estate agent who lives just around the block about selling their Rooty Hill home, according to neighbours. The family house in Hassall Grove, five minutes away, was where Ms. Rakic resided with her adult son Dion.

Her older daughter Amellia posted numerous photos of her on Facebook with her grandchild. Tuesday night at 8:15 p.m., neighbours reported hearing two "big loud screams" followed by silence until police came 15 minutes later.
