In a tragic incident that happened in Portage Park, Chicago, an eight-year-old girl was shot in the head and died by a neighbor who was angry over the noise the kids were making outside. The gunman attacked Sarabi Medina while she was riding her scooter home after purchasing ice cream from an ice cream truck. According to WGNTV, the incident took place on Saturday, August 5, at around 9.40 p.m. in the vicinity of the 3500 block of North Long Avenue.

According to the accounts, the suspect crossed the street to a gathering of kids before firing, striking Sarabi in the head. Father of the girl, who was present for the entire episode attempted to pull the gun away from the gunman and, according to Chicago Sun-Times, shot him in the face during the fight.  After receiving a gunshot wound above his left eye, the shooter was taken into custody after being taken in critical condition to the Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Charges are reportedly pending and there was a weapon found at the site. Sarabi was taken seriously ill and eventually declared dead at Stroger Hospital. Community activist Andrew Holmes, who visited the distraught father and expressed his sympathies, was able to identify her. According to Holmes, Sarabi was an outgoing child who enjoyed playing with her friends and brothers.

When she was due to enter the fourth grade,The gunman had a reputation for complaining about children making noise on the block, according to Sarabi's family's neighbors, who advised them to steer clear of him. The Sun-Times was informed by Megan Kelley, a family friend of Sarabi, that the man would emerge and yell at the kids for playing and having fun.

Kelley added that gun violence had previously had an impact on Sarabi's family. In 2019, the girl's mother was shot and died, leaving the girl's father to raise his four children by himself. Regarding the gunman, Kelley said, "You kind of just stayed away from him." James, a different neighbor, called Sarabi "daddy's little girl" and said she was always scooting along the street. He claimed she did.He declared, "She didn't deserve to go."

To honor Sarabi's memory, stuffed animals and wildflowers were arranged around a tree close to the shooting spot. A lot of people voiced their surprise and sorrow over the shooting death of another young person in Chicago. "For what cause did you kill an innocent child, a baby girl? These parents now have to grieve the loss of their child along with everything else, and every time they turn around and look, they will be reminded that it was across the street.

Nobody's going to allow their kids play here, says Sue Kyser, a local, according to ABC 7. In a statement, Chicago Public Schools expressed their devastation at the incident and their condolences to Sarabi's family and friends. "We are heartbroken by the loss of yet another young life. The whole Chicago Public Schools (CPS) family is thinking of and sending its condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy.
