For the shooting death of Ryelee Manente-Powell, 18, on October 19, 2020, in Waupaca County, Wisconsin, William "Bill" Zelenski, 46, is accused with homicide. Prosecutors claim that Manente-Powell was shot by Zelenski after the adolescent allegedly stole four reptiles from Zelenski's property worth a total of more than $25,000.

Zelenski called 911 just before 10:30 p.m. to report that he had confronted Manente-Powell and an accomplice, Ashton Tody, over the alleged theft of four reptiles: a lizard worth $17,000, a baby Burmese python worth $7,000, a Nile crocodile snake worth $2,000, and a boa constrictor worth $575. He claimed that his property had also had wine and guns stolen from it.
