Valenti, however, was unable to swim to the coast. Authorities claim that none of them were wearing life jackets. Austin Valenti earlier told News 12 Long Island, "Travis gave [Marlene] the little extra push he needed to be safe, and he still hasn't been found since 2 or 3 p.m. Friday."
Valenti had just proposed to her two days prior, according to his brother. On Facebook, Valenti said that he was a Miami Dolphins fan and dachshund enthusiast. Personnel from the nearby Log Cabin Resort who reacted were unsuccessful in finding Valenti, and searchers were unsuccessful in finding him again.
Lake Crescent, according to the National Park Service, is extremely cold and deep, with surface water temperatures currently being close to 50 degrees. "Sudden immersion in cold water will affect a person's breathing and, over time, his ability to move his limbs," he said. The organisation stated that boaters should always wear a life jacket and that swimmers should always swim with a friend.
The family of Valenti published thank-you notes for the prayers they had received and the effective work of Christian Aid Ministries. Valerie Trumpeter, a cousin, wrote on Facebook, "We are grateful that our prayers have been heard, and we will soon have him back in New York."
In order to express her gratitude to everyone who wrote encouraging messages, gave money, and helped find Valenti, Diana Rose, who is dating Valenti's brother, set up a GoFundMe to support search and recovery operations. Over $62,000 had been raised through the page.
