On Wednesday, prosecutors testified before Adelaide Magistrates Court that Polymiadis poisoned her mother with her own insulin and then gave her a lethal dose as she started to feel better.According to The Advertiser, she used the same strategy to try to make her death appear to be a suicide when she tried to make her father's death appear to be a suicide 12 months later.

Raelene Polymiadis Incident Detail

"Neither Ms. nor Mr. Anderson had diabetes; neither required insulin; and the defendant was the only diabetic in his family," said prosecutor Michael Foundas. The court was told how Mr. Anderson was discovered on April 30 with oxazepam tablets "strewn about" in his residence. According to Foundas, an autopsy showed that Mr. Anderson's blood levels of the anti-anxiety medication oxazepam were not high enough to cause his death.

He died from insulin toxicity, which was induced by inadequate oxazepam, according to a postmortem analysis that found two medications in his system. We claim that the scattered tablets were an attempt to hide the fact that Mr. Anderson died from an insulin overdose rather than by suicide.

The day before she was discovered, Ms. Polymiadis had Googled the effects of oxazepam, according to further examinations of her phone. Polymiadis has not yet admitted guilt to her accusations. She has been detained until a subsequent court appearance on Thursday.
