Authorities say a California father killed his 7-year-old kid by strangling him before killing himself in a similar manner. The bodies of Blaine Paddock, 43, and his son, 7, who was found strangled to death at his Thousand Oaks, California, home. According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, Blaine Paddock was discovered unconscious on Tuesday night at his house in the upscale Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks next to his infant son, whose name has not been disclosed.

According to authorities, just before 7 o'clock a guy called 911 to report a probable suicide at a house in the 2300 block of Chiquita Lane. Inside the house, agents discovered Paddock and his youngest son both unconscious. First responders pronounced the father dead at the scene. At Los Robles Regional Medical Centre, where he was later confirmed dead, his son was brought.

After conducting autopsy on the father and kid, the Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office ruled that strangling was the child's cause of death. Paddock passed away through ligature strangulation, which is another name for hanging. His cause of death was determined to be suicide.

At Paddock's residence, detectives from the sheriff's Major Crimes Unit carried out a search order. What they discovered and if the father had written a suicide note were not disclosed. Following a 911 call reporting a suspected suicide, deputies went to the 2300 block of Chiquita Lane in Thousand Oaks.
