Edmund Burton

1926 - 1907 

The son of a solicitor, Edmund Charles Burton was born at Weedon on September 4, 1826.

He won the first ever National Hunt Chase in 1860. He won it again the following year on Queensferry.

His nickname was 'Doughey'.

In 1846, he rowed for Oxford.

Turning to training, he sent out Alcibiade to win the 1865 Grand National.

He has a memorial in the market Square at Daventry where he was a solicitor and town clerk.

Edmund died at Daventry on August 20, 1907. He left 14,419.
