John Bramhill

Riding between 1990-2004, John's 14 years as a flat race jockey yielded 258 winners.

Born on July 4, 1972, John Alexander Bramhill grew up in a non-racing family in Telford and was introduced to the sport through trainer Roy Cambridge who had enjoyed success with Threadbare, a horse famous for winning three races on consecutive days in 1973 - over hurdles, fences and on the flat.

John helped out on Roy's farm while Roy lined up a job for him with Charlie James in Lambourn.

It was here that John had his first few rides before moving on to Bryan McMahon, Ian Balding and Dandy Nicholls of Tall Tree Farm, Sessay, Thirsk.

He was riding over 500 horses a year and made a living but decided to quit the saddle when the opportunity to ride work at Godolphin came along.

John would start riding work for the stable at 5 am then, at 11 am, start valeting cars. Putting in a 13-hour day was hard work, but John's love of horses and cars certainly helped.

His best win came at York's Dante meeting in 2003 when he rode Matty Tun to win the Tote Bookmakers Handicap.

In 2015, John achieved his UKCC Level 2 Coaching Qualification and began a new role as a Jockey Coach.
