William Blake 

1870 - 1892

William Henry Blake was born at Croydon on January 24, 1870, and was the jockey on board Whitelegs which won the 1889 Royal Hunt Cup.

He also won the 1888 Stewards' Cup (Tib), Portland (1888, Goldseeker & 1889 Galloping Queen) and the 1889 Northumberland Plate (Drizzle).

William died of congestion of the lungs on February 22, 1892.

He was just 22 and he left a wife and a child, plus £433.
