Harvey Bastiman

Harvey James Bastiman, born on January 1, 1974, was the unfortunate apprentice who received a record 16-day suspension for his riding of Mybotye, trained by his father Robin, in the Doncaster Town Moor Handicap run at Catterick on August 5, 1997.

Harvey, aged 22, who had won the race, was stood down for reckless riding.

To make matters worse, his father was fined £200 for failing to inform the stewards of the reasons for Mybotye's poor performance on his previous outing.

The experience didn't put the apprentice off racing: he continued to ride - under both sets of rules - for a further twenty years.

Harvey's sister, Rebecca, was also a jockey.

The Bastiman family operated from Goosemoor Farm, Warfield Lane, Cowthorpe, Wetherby.
