Owen Baldwin

1893 - 1942

Amateur rider Flight-Lieut Owen Morgan Baldwin was born on February 21, 1893.

He broke his back and was paralysed when falling from Kingsland at the last fence in a chase at Cheltenham on January 3, 1942. He died from his injuries nine days later, on January 12, 1942, aged 48.

Andrew Jarvis was originally booked for the ride, Owen taking over at the last minute.

Before turning to race riding, he had set a world speed record on a motorbike.
