October 22, 2024 - Meeting Summary
The San Diego S-Gaugers held the September club meeting at our clubhouse. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Robert Graves, Alex Sibbald, Dale Minard, Raulf Polichar, Don Briggs, Paul De Laurell, Scott Lewis and Gary Clemons.
Introduction of New Faces / Show and Tell:
Mike Forys told us about his trip to Barcelona.
Treasurer's Report:
Bob Graves reported that the club received visitor donations totaling $300.29 in Sept $5.26 more than Aug, and $33.74 above the average for September with $125.09 of the donations coming from our Venmo account. In the twenty-five months we have had Venmo Service, we have received $1788.21 in donations. Bob reported $18.79 in sales of donated trains this month. We have received $8,230 from the sale of donated trains to date.
Standards Report:
Ralph Polichar is looking into a replacement for the window layout doorbells. Perhaps a way to sense a hand placed on the window.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:
Mike Forys reported that from Sept 14th, 2024, to October 19th, 2024 the window buttons have been pushed 2757 times. Windows 1= 1,389 Windows 2 = 1,368 average 78.77 per day over 35 days.
Grossmont total (beginning Feb, 2016) = 327,470
Day one (beginning May, 2011) total = 367,028
Visitor Total since February 1, 2016 = 97,193
Old Business:
Club Mural:
The UP logo is progressing nicely and the door hardware will be next.
Window Layouts:
The track on Liberty Loop layout appears to have loose electrical contacts which require soldering.
New Business:
Lego Days:
The next Lego Build Day is scheduled for October 26, 2024.
Future Events:
The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, November 19th, 2024 and December 17th, 2024 and will be held at our clubhouse and on Zoom.
Main Layout:
A circus display has been located on the S curve temporarily until the permanent town is completed.
Halloween:
Mike Forys reported that the mall will be holding trick or treat from 2pm to 4pm on Halloween with the stores providing their own candy for giveaway. We will be open from 2:00pm until 6:00pm
Visitor Celebration:
The club expects that we will see our 100,000th visitor at this location sometime between this November, and January 2025.
SDSG Layout Expansion:
Mike Forys has finished constructing two new modules to support the layout expansion to include our turntable module. One is 24 inches deep and one is 30 inches deep. Track and scenery have been installed. The modules are ready for installation.
Work Day Reschedule:
October 23rd, 2024 has been selected as the time to modify the main layout to allow for expansion. The work will begin at 10:00 am. The 27th will be a backup day in case the work isn’t finished on the 23rd Mike Forys is seeking volunteers to aid in this endeavor. September 18th work day was canceled.
2025 Proposed Calendar:
Mike Forys presented a proposed calendar for 2025.
Mike Forys asked everyone to start thinking about what features we can put into our layout and or clubhouse to celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary.
Replace Chairs:
The club voted to replace the old club chairs with new folding chairs.
Shadow Box:
It was suggested that we use the front shadow box to display donated trains that are available.
NASG Convention:
The members discussed the possibility of hosting a NASG Convention with another club. Mike Forys will contact the Southern California S-Gauge club. Dale will get two copies of the convention guidelines.
