January 16, 2018 - Meeting Summary


The San Diego S-Gaugers held the January club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Robert Graves, Raulf Polichar, Wes Noel, Ken Sadlock, Al Keil, Don Briggs, and Alex Sibbald.


Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

The club welcomed James Faucet brother of Ron Faucet. James and Ron started out with American Flyer and James is currently working with Teeny Trains, which James displayed.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Graves reported that we received $310.48 from visitor donations and realized a $73.55 profit in December. Bob spent a lot of time updating the list of club assets and added a depreciation column on his financial report.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar reported that several of our switches are not closing all the way and he is pursuing a fix.

Publicity Report:

Les Smith left several of the club brochures that he has updated with current pictures, descriptions and club information.


Old Business:

SDSG Website:

Robert Graves reported progress on the club website where he has posted all the club minutes. The 2018 calendar has been added along with a pitch for new members.

New Clinics:

The next clinic will feature locomotive repair. Raulf Polichar recommended the club purchase and stock some basic parts for the clinic.

New Gilbertown Modules:

Four new modules have been installed and the fifth module is being worked on. Scenery and accessories are being added.

10th Anniversary:

The 10th Anniversary on January 13th was well received. The club hosted the NMRA monthly tour and provided an extra hour for their visit. Overall we saw over 650 visitors and served cake, cookies and drinks.

Wndow Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 01/13/2018 the window layout button has been pushed 5,300 times since our last meeting, 82,839 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 117,812 times since day one.


New Business:

Future events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, February 20, 2018 and March 20, 2018 and will be held at our clubhouse (suite 304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM.

Window Displays:

Raulf Polichar reported that the A.F. locomotive on the window display is making strange noises.

Lift Bridge:

The bridge entry module alignment is still our number one problem. Progress has been made on the track alignment. More work needs to be done.

Outside Signage:

Dale Minard created and installed a double-sided, outside, blade sign that is visible from both directions. The Mall designed, created and installed a Grossmont Central Railroad sign over our front doors. These were both in place for our anniversary event.

National Train Day:

The National Train Day is scheduled for May 12, 2018. Les Smith suggested an open house that would feature a display of original A.F. Train Sets and offer the general public an opportunity to bring in their A.F. Trains to be checked and run.

New skirting and curtains:

Mike and Maggie Forys installed the extra skirting to create curtains and skirting for our extended modular layout and side displays.

Grossmont Grapery building:

Dale Minard created a building to house the wine operation. It is complete with the exception of the outdoor lighting.

Election of Club Officers:

The club nominated and voted to install the existing club officers for another year term in office.

Layout Maintanance:

The club scheduled a work, day on Thursday, Jan 25, to repair and optimize our modular layout.
