July 26, 2014 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S Gaugers held the July club meeting at the home of Bob Graves. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Bob Graves, Dale Minard, Alex Sibbald, Wes Noel, Al Kiel, Oakley Warren and Jim Patterson.

Show and Tell:

Bob Graves displayed his new reefers delivered by MTH.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Graves reported that we took in $147.04 in clubhouse donations during June.

Standards Report:

Mike reported that Raulf was working to upgrade the DCC power unit. He thinks we should add an additional 12VDC power supply to enable us to split the load on the layout into 2 sections each with its own supply.

Publicity Report:

No report this month.

Old Business:

Module access:

Although the modules are in storage, they are accessible for repair/upgrade etc.

SDSG Website:

Bob Graves has put a message on the website explaining that we have lost our clubhouse and are seeking another. It has been suggested that we add a counter to our website. Bob Graves is investigating ways to accomplish this.

Window Layout:

Our activity counter recorded 585 hits during our last short month. In the 26 months that the counter was operational, the activation button had been pushed a total of 27,764 times. We averaged 1068 hits per month during that time.

New Business:

Future events:

The next monthly meeting of 2014 will be hosted by Wes Noel on the 23rd of August. Wes will be hosting a clinic on conversion of AF steam engines to operate on DCC at 1:00PM before the club meeting. Mike will email directions to Wes’s house the week of the meeting.

PSR Regional Convention:

The PSR Regional Convention runs from Sept 3 thru Sept 7. We have been invited to set up our modular layout in the convention hall at Marriott Courtyard in Mission Valley. Probable layout size is 33 X 14. Passes will be issued to those who are operating the layout but not attending the convention.

New Clubhouse Search:

We are searching for a new clubhouse. Bob Graves has created a handout to aid in this process. The ideal size would be 40 X 50 but we could squeeze into 40 X 35. All members are encouraged to look for possible facilities to host our clubhouse. Currently the furniture and mural panels are stored in a garage near University and 37th St. The modules, tools and supplies are stored in an apartment near the intersection of Spring St. and University in La Mesa. Thanks to Raulf and Mike for locating these no-cost storage facilities. Mike and Bob have been investigating the feasibility of becoming a 501C3 non-profit organization in order to attract a host for our clubhouse.

Liberty Station:

We parted company with Liberty Station on schedule. Mike had a good final meeting with the McMillin people who reported no damage to their facility, only normal wear and tear.

GTE:

There will not be a GTE show at Del Mar in December this year.

Meeting was adjourned at 3:55PM.
