December 18, 2018 - Meeting Summary


The San Diego S-Gaugers held the December club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Robert Graves, Raulf Polichar, Les Smith, Don Briggs, Alex Sibbald, Wes Noel, Ken Sadlock, Jerry Shiller and Burdette Streeter.


Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Mike Forys featured a Sn3 brass Galloping Goose that had been decaled by Dale Minard. Robert Graves showed us several S train cars including a rocket car that had been donated. Burdette Streeter who donated his train set brought in a childhood engine that needed testing.

Treasurer’s Report:

Robert Graves reported that we received $456.84 from visitor donations. He reported that we had a monthly electric bill of $127.01 which is considerably lower due to our air conditioning maintenance and season change.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar has obtained replacement radio buttons for our unmanned window layouts just in the nick of time as Mike reported that the current button requires repair or replacement.

Old Business:

New Clinics:

No new clinic ideas were suggested.

New Gilbert Town Modules:

Rework on the last module is on hold.

SN3 Addition Status.

The donated SN3 layout is being stabilized by Dale Minard. After stabilization, volunteers will be assigned tasks and a time schedule for completion will be created.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 12/15/2018 the window layout button has been pushed 2,875 times since our last meeting, 118,644 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 158,466 times since day one.


New Business:

Future events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, January 22 and February 19 and be held at our clubhouse (suite 304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM.

Lego Build Update:

The Lego Build day on December 1st was well received with 527 visitors who entered our clubhouse and many Lego participants.

Window Displays:

Raulf Polichar is working on the new engine for the window display. The ceramic village winter display is attracting many mall attendees.

Test Track:

The club is contemplating building a multi-gauge test track due to many requests from visitors who have non-operating trains in other gauges and don't know where to turn for testing and advice. Member suggestions included track and power options.

Future Visitor Schedule:

Mike Forys advised that the past visitor attendance shows that Sundays attract more visitors than Tuesdays. Changing our scheduled open days could attract more visitors. It was determined that a change should be based on Grossmont Center needs and member participation and approval.

Elections:

Club officer elections will be held at the January meeting.

Teen Community Service Helix High:

Mike Forys discussed potentially hosting Helix High teens who are participating in Community Service.
