January 21, 2020 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the January club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00AM. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Wes Noel, Ken Sadlock, Alex Sibbald, Don Briggs, Raulf Polichar, Dale Minard, Jerry Shiller and Les Smith.


Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Les Smith brought in several transcontinental commemorative stamp sheets and a Golden Age of Train Travel book. Dale Minard displayed a magazine rack that was filled with free model train magazines for visitors. Dale created labels that contained the club information for the covers of the magazines. He also created a handout listing of train-related San Diego destinations for visitors. Ken Sadlock brought several sets of US stamps honoring the 150, year anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad. He also showed us a set of flimsies that used to be used on Railroads.

Treasurer’s Report:

Robert Graves report stated that we received $418.41 from visitor donations in December. His report stated that we had a monthly electric bill of $125.15.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar reported that he has finished both dual gauge turnouts. Raulf has finished the repair of the second power unit for the narrow gauge layout. The right half of the layout is now operational.

Publicity Report:

Mike Forys attended a seminar at the Oasis Facility at the shopping center. It would be available if we want to host a seminar there. It would seat about 80 attendees.

New Clinics:

Visitors often ask about landscaping and how to build a mountain. For really young kids starting out, we might do how to put track together and connect wires to it. There are suggestion forms now available to solicit subjects that visitors desire for clinics.

SN3 Addition Status:

The Sn3 layout power to the right side is all hooked up. Layout is ready for hand laying/repairing trackage on the left side of the layout..

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 01/18/2020 the Window Layout Button 1 has been pushed 1,118 times and Window Layout Button 2 has been pushed 1,016 times for a total of 2,134 times since our last meeting, 156,415 times since we first installed one at Grossmont Center and 196,743 times since day one. At the current rate we will hit 200,000 pushes in February; The club discussed thoughts on how to celebrate it.

Future events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, Feb 18th and March 17th will be held at our clubhouse (suite 304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM. The Ceramic Christmas Display will be replaced with the Streeterville Display at the Feb 18th meeting. The NMRA tour will be hosted on March 14th.

Work Day:

The club will have a work day on Feb 6th at 10:00AM.

Lego Build Event:

The Lego Event will be held on Saturday, February 29th and will run from noon until 4PM. The upcoming Lego Build days will be held on the last Saturday of the even numbered months except December will be on the third Saturday of the month.

Club Exhibit Insurance:

Mike Forys explained the cost of insurance to cover layout and member assets. He will investigate blanket coverage and report to the club.

Miscellaneous

End of the line for John Clary who recently passed due to cancer.

Annual Elections were held with the incumbents elected for another year.
