June 21, 2022 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the June club meeting at our clubhouse and on Zoom. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Ken Sadlock, Robert Graves, Dale Minard, Raulf Polichar, John Racey, Al Kiel, Don Briggs, Les Smith and Alex Sibbald.

Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Mike Forys described a bridge that he remembered in Chicago that went over the train yard. Mike drove over it while on vacation and reported that it had been changed from a wood surface to concrete.

Treasurer's Report:

This month Bob Graves reported $439.65 from clubhouse visitor donations in May which makes it the best May in donations since the club began.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar had a busy month but found time to begin work on a "Y" track for the main layout upgrade.

Library Report:

Dale Minard is now scanning articles from Railroad Model Craftsman. Dale and Mike teamed up to ship the private collection of train magazines belonging to the late Don Hiemburger to the NASG Library in Minneapolis Minnesota. It filled 7 boxes and cost $129.00 for shipping. Mike just happened to be in Chicago on vacation when Dale was attempting to transfer the magazines from Don's home.

SN3 Addition Status:

Mike Forys has installed several train cars on the display to enhance the scenery.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

From 05/14/2022 to 06/18/2022 the Window Layout Button 1 has been pushed 1,704 times and Window Layout Button 2 has been pushed 1,973 times for a total of 3,677 times or 225,708 times since Feb 2016 when we first installed one at Grossmont Center and 264,766 times since day one.

New Business:

Covad-19 Update:

After a brief discussion it was agreed that we will discontinue mandating Covid-19 protocols for the time being. Members are encouraged to wear masks if they want to or if visitors prefer to.

Future events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, July 19th 2022 and August 16th, 2022 and will be held at our clubhouse and on Zoom.

Gilbert Town Transformer:

It was noticed that the voltmeter on the transformer in Gilbert Town area seems to be running hot when running Flyer Chief remote. We set the voltage at less than full until we find the cause and solution.

Club Mural:

Mike Forys is leading a crew developing a plan for a refer style door for the new club mural.

Lego Build day:

The next Lego build day will ne held this Saturday, June 25th in front of our clubhouse.

Liberty Loop Layout:

Mike Forys and Raulf Polichar are troubleshooting erratic operation of both locomotives on the middle module of the window display.

Other Items:

Raulf Polichar displayed a footprint he developed for a #6"Y" turnout, which would be placed on the PY1/C4 extension.

Mike will be on vacation from July 22nd until July 30th and from August 24th to August 30th.
