September 26, 2015 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S Gaugers held the Sept club meeting at the home of Wes Noel. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Alex Sibbald, Ken Sadlock, Bob Graves, Wes Noel, Dale Minard, and Les Smith.

Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

During show and tell the following items were introduced:

Dale Minard showed us the ratcheting screwdriver from Lowes with bits that are size appropriate for model trains.

Mike Forys displayed a Lionel S gauge Polar Express passenger car. Ken Sadlock presented a 1958 Official Guide to the Railway and a book that detailed railroad line clearances. Raulf Polichar brought in an American Hirail Hiawatha engine and tender shells.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Graves reported a quiet month with no activity.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar is working on the switches that we need to lay track on the three new Gilbert Town Modules (30”)

He is working with several switch manufacturers on a design for production of closed frog switches.

Publicity Report:

Dale Minard brought in 24 ball caps with our club logo that he purchased from Land’s End. They are available to members for $8/cap.

Old Business:

SDSG Website:

N/C

SDMRM Labor Day Visit:

We had a successful visit at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum over the Labor Day Weekend. The layout attracted a steady flow of visitors with the busiest day realized on Sunday. We did not experience any loss of power on the corners probably due to our reduced size.

Liberty Station:

Mike Forys responded to the foundation side at Liberty Station to reject their offer for the club to setup trains at the Command Center this holiday season. Unfortunately the space available would require us to create a new, small, layout for that venture and so the board will recommend another club for that effort.

New Business:

Christmas at Grossmont Center:

Mike Forys received the keys for our suite at Grossmont Center and distributed them to the officers. The suite is located next to Panera Bread and will allow us to setup our entire layout. We will be moving in on Sept 29th and are meeting at the storage facility in La Mesa at 9AM to load trucks. The group discussed possibilities for window operation during the Halloween Season. Mike Forys has ceramic Halloween village houses that we can use. He also presented a tentative schedule for our stay at Grossmont Center. It was decided to go with a separate button control for each window display.

501(c)3 status:

Mike Forys is meeting with SCORE on October 1st to finalize application process.

Future Projects:

Mike Forys says that the new Powell Yard module (PY3.5) is 70% complete. Mike reported that the 3 new Gilbert Yard module modules have their wire harnesses installed and the sky boards painted. He estimates they are 60% complete. Raulf Polichar passed along to Bob Graves several of Tom’s Turnouts that will be used in the new Gilbert Yard.

Future events:

The October 17th meeting scheduled for the home of Ken Sadlock has been moved to our new suite at Grossmont Center. An engine repair clinic will be held that morning preceding the meeting. The November 21 and December 19 meetings will take place at our Suite in Grossmont Center.

Mike Forys announced that the GTE schedule has already been posted and that the Del Mar show is scheduled for Valentine’s Day weekend (2/12/16, 2/13/16, 2/14/16) next spring.

Meeting was adjourned at 3:25 PM.
