July 18, 2015 - Meeting Summary
The San Diego S Gaugers held the June club meeting at the home of Bob Graves. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Alex Sibbald, Ken Sadlock,, Bob Graves, Wes Noel, Al Kiel, and Les Smith.
Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:
During show and tell the following items were introduced:
Les Smith brought in an “N”scale refrigerator car.
Bob Graves demonstrated the long truck difference between the 1946 652 pullman coaches and later year 652 coaches.
Wes Noel displayed the flyer 302 locomotive that he modified with a camelback conversion kit.
Al Kiel showed us the small wheel puller that he purchased which is available to the club members.
Ken Sadlock presented a flyer caboose with a coil cover conversion that he has dubbed a N.J. toxic waste collection car.
Treasurer’s Report:
Bob Graves reported a quiet month.
Standards Report:
The Upsonite panels,similar to those used by Raulf Polichar on the top of his modules, arrived on Wednesday this week. We ordered two bundles of (8), 4’ X 8 ’sheets ¼”thick, constructed using compressed cardboard. Raulf purchased half of the order for his home layout. Mike Forys, Raulf Polichar and Alex Sibbald delivered the remaining panels to the La Mesa storage unit. One sheet was cut to size to fit the three new Gilbert Town Modules (30”)

Future Clubhouse Status:
Mike Forys reported that his search for a new clubhouse location is ongoing. Mike will attempt to contact the management at Grossmont Center to discuss future space availability.
SDSG Website:
Bob Graves reported that all the club minutes are now available on the website. Several pages are now equipped with a visitor counter with more to come in the future.
New Clinics:
This topic has been expanded to include the display of train related trip movies and pictures.
Wes has offered to present a ballasting clinic complete with refreshments.

Future events:
The Aug 15th meeting will be held at the home of Les Smith at 2:00PM. Les will be hosting a social get-together featuring a potluck luncheon preceding and following the abbreviated meeting. Members and their guests are invited and details will follow.
The Sept 26th meeting will be held at the home of Wes Noel who will also be conducting a ballasting clinic preceding the meeting. The October 17th meeting will be held at the home of Ken Sadlock. An engine repair clinic will be held that morning.
Mike announced that the GTE schedule has already been posted and that the Del Mar show is scheduled for Valentine’s Day weekend next spring.
501(c)3 status:
Mike Forys and Bob Graves will meet this week to finalize the application.
Future Projects:
The club discussed the plan to rework both Powell Yard and the Gilbert Siding modules. Mike Forys says that the new Powell Yard module (PY3.5) is 70% complete. Mike reported that the 3 new Gilbert Yard module frames along with their wire harnesses have been constructed. He estimates they are 50% complete. After some testing was done to determine maximum grade on reverse corner and yard staging area, the design was modified to replace a single 6’ module with (2) 4’ modules to reduce grade.
SDMRM Labor Day Visit:
Our next layout display will take place at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum over the Labor Day Weekend. Setup will take place on Thursday 9/03/15 with layout open to visitors on the following Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Teardown will begin after display hours on Monday.
A suggestion was made that the club consider a second visit to the SDMRM each year.
Model Citizens:
Model Citizens DVD is currently in production with an expected release in October.
