July 16, 2016 - Meeting Summary


The San Diego S Gaugers held the July club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Alex Sibbald, Bob Graves, Ken Sadlock, Don Briggs, Wes Noel, and Mike Forys.


Show and Tell:

Ken Sadlock displayed the debris pickup car that he constructed. He also brought in the A.F. Searchlight car that he repaired. Mike showed us a poster that was donated to the club depicting the Sacramento Railroad Museum funding initiative. Mike Forys passed around a new Craftsman adjustable claw hammer. Mike presented several layout configurations that would require some room modifications. He also displayed a section of MTH track sized for one of our modules (48”) and ready to have wires added.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Graves reported that we received $213.01 from visitor donations in June.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar is working on a modified control box for Liberty Loop. The next revision will start and stop at the station.

Bob Graves is working to add new pictures and page counters.

PY3.5 (station expansion):

The module is ready for gluing down the track and the station platforms are in the works. (On hold)

T1 replacement frame:

The replacement frame is ready for track. (On hold)

New Gilbert Town Modules:

The three new Gilbert Town modules are ready for laying track. Track is ready to be glued down on two of the three modules.


New Business:

Miniature Museum:

Les Smith sent a message to Mike Forys suggesting that the club check out the Miniature Museum.

Clinics:

A clinic, held by Wes Noel before the June meeting demonstrating the application of Bullfrog Snot on locomotive drive wheels, was recorded by Bob Graves and uploaded to our web site.

Window Layout Success:

As of 07/12/2016 the window layout button has been pushed 2,399 times since our last meeting, 28,830 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 63,758 times since day one.

Future events:

The next meetings will be held on Saturday August 20th. The September 13th and October 18th meetings will be held on Tuesdays. All meetings will be held at our Suite (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM.

Track Issues:

The PY5 turnout problem appears to be fixed.

Clubhouse Issues:

Mike Forys discussed the creation of a rerailer on the Ceramic Village Display. He explained that the derail tendency of the GP20 on the Liberty Loop Display lessens with the reduction of speed.

La Mesa Courier:

The article depicting the club and its activities did not appear in the June 24th edition of the La Mesa Courier as expected.

Additional Window layout:

A discussion of a possible new layout for the section of the front window that is unused (4’ by 6.5’) resulted in several ideas. Alex will investigate the possible configurations.

New Member advertising:

In order to attract new members, A suggestion was made to put up a poster on the front door of the club house letting the public know that they can join the club. In Dale’s Absence, Mike and Ken will design a poster.
