August 25, 2012 - Meeting Summary


The San Diego S Gaugers held the August club meeting in our clubhouse in Liberty Station. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Raulf Polichar, Alex Sibbald, and Dale Minard.


Show and Tell:

Dale brought in his SNS DCC conversion kit for our inspection. Mike Forys showed us the railroad watch with a history of railroad watches that he recently received as a gift. Raulf Polichar brought in fuses that we could use for our turnout motors.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Graves sent in totals for last month. We took in $114.00 in donations.

Standards:

Raulf stated that he has a DCC programming track in the works.


Old Business:

PY4/PY5 Passing Siding:

Switch has been fabricated. Due to lack of time remaining before our event at SDMRM over the Labor Day Weekend, we will not incorporate it at this time.

Lift bridge module:

On Hold, waiting for Design.

Window Layout:

Our activity counter recorded 851 hits since last month’s meeting.

SDMRM Labor Day Visit:

The visit to the museum will be a 4 day event. Teardown will take place on the Wednesday proceeding Labor Day weekend. Setup will be on Thursday afternoon and the event will run from Friday until Monday. We will pack up and return the modules to the clubhouse on Monday afternoon. Setup in the clubhouse will be Tuesday and Wednesday and will include adding one more module on each side into the layout.

Inside Staging area:

We are reviewing alternatives to the initial design.

Upgrade SDSG Website:

In process.

PY3.5 Progress:

Track and roadbed have been installed. The module is ready for insertion after the SDMRM event. We need to fabricate bridge rails.

Name the main layout:

Few suggestions have been submitted. San Diego and Arizona Western Railroad seems to be the most popular to date.


New Business:

Things to do before SDMRM Event:

The original Plexiglas panels have been replaced. We hope to have transparent plastic channel in time to bridge Plexiglas and backboard panels.

Things to do after SDMRM Event:

We will be cleaning the clubhouse before setup.

Content Insurance:

Mike is looking into content insurance for our club.

Future Clinics:

We will be expanding our clinic sessions to encompass other subject areas as well as engine repairs. The club plans to meet for a 4-hour session before each monthly Saturday meeting.

Next Open House:

We agreed upon an open house on October 20 with a Halloween Theme.

Future events:

Future meetings are scheduled for Sept 22, Oct 27th, Nov 17th, Dec 8th (?) and Jan 19, 2013.

Bob volunteered to have our meeting at his house in December following the GTE on the evening of December 1st.

The World’s Greatest Hobby Train Show is coming to the Del Mar Fairgrounds on the 9th and 10th of February and we plan to attend.
