January 17, 2017 - Meeting Summary


The San Diego S Gaugers held the January club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Alex Sibbald, Ken Sadlock, Mike Forys, Mark Reinhard, Robert Graves, John Racey, Les Smith, Wes Noel, Dale Minard, Raulf Polichar and Al Keil.


Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Mike Forys brought in and hung up a REA picture. Dale Minard displayed two Model Railroader Magazines. Les Smith recounted his trip to a Houston Museum. Ken Sadlock presented his latest acquired train car and an excavator for his flatcar. Raulf Polichar displayed his new, heavy-duty, battery powered Dremel Model 8220. Mark Reinhard donated two different oil derricks to the club for assembly and inclusion on the layout.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Graves’ report stated that we received $444.13 from visitor donations in December. Our profit for 2016 equaled $2,966.22. He also passed out to the officers club account information along with passwords.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar is constructing 3 turnouts and has ordered a 5 pack of parts for future turnouts.

Publicity Report:

Dale Minard has passed this position and pertinent information along to Les Smith who had volunteered for this job.

PY3.5 (station expansion):

The module is ready for gluing down the track and the station platforms are in the works. (On hold)

T1 replacement frame:

The replacement frame is ready for track. (On hold)

New Gilbert Town Modules:

One of the three new Gilbert Town modules has been installed on the main layout. One module is 95% complete due to train sensors from Z Stuff not working and the third module is ready for track and #6 left hand turnout for the outside main. The 4th Module is due for updating soon.


New Business:

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 01/14/2017 the window layout button has been pushed 2,840 times since our last meeting, 46,667 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 81,640 times since day one. We should hit the 100,000 mark in July or August. Visitor attendance has averaged 644 per month on Tuesdays and 985 per month on Saturdays.

Future events:

The next meetings will be held on Tuesday February 21 and March 21. All meetings will be held at our Suite (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM.

GTE show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds:

A discussion and vote on attending the GTE show on February 18th and 19th was held. It was decided not to attend as a club.

Additional Window layout:

The additional window layout is awaiting site preparation and Lego Museum input.

New Clinics:

Mike Forys will be giving a clinic on the club’s modular layout wiring in February.

NMRA membership information:

Mike Forys reported that our status as a NMRA 100% club was approved for 2017.

Potential expansion:

The potential project was discussed as to the pros and cons of clubhouse modification. A committee was formed. Les Smith, Mark Reinhard and Mike Forys will investigate potential approaches to expansion and report back to the club.

Pay Pal account for Donations:

The club discussed the potential benefits for creating a Pay Pal Account for donations and decided not to pursue it at this time.

Mall Security:

A discussion was held on how to handle disruptive visitors. Mike Forys will talk to the head of mall security again, to work out appropriate actions that SDSG members can take. The phone number for mall security is 619-954-6201 to be used in the case of unruly visitors.

Election of Officers for 2017:

A motion was entered to re-elect the 2016 officers for 2017 and the motion was passed. The officers were asked if they were willing to continue serving in their positions and they all acknowledged that they were.
