April 18, 2023 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the April club meeting at our clubhouse and on Zoom. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Ken Sadlock, Robert Graves, Scott Lewis, Raulf Polichar, Dale Minard, Don Briggs, Alex Sibbald, Tim Lewis, John Racey, Jay Schwabe, Paul DeLaurell and Les Smith.

Introduction of New Faces / Show and Tell:

Scott Lewis displayed a bridge rail with a soldered lead to be used to solve intermittent open circuits that cause unscheduled stops. Scott displayed brake shoes from 1/8th scale train cars. Scott, Tim Lewis and Don Briggs described the train show in Hemet this month. John Racey showed us recent additions to his layout which included a coal tower that he constructed. Ken Sadlock brought in an O gauge handcar that he picked up recently. Ken also passed around a humorous discourse on American Flyer verses Lionel.

Treasurer's Report:

Bob Graves reported that the club received visitor cash donations totaling $317.28 in March, the second highest amount for March in the club history. The club showed a profit of $1,338.38 in March mainly due to a generous donation of trains and accessories from Jerry Shiller.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar reported that all the switch indicators have been installed. He plans to use a computer provided by Paul DeLaurell to document DCC engine functions.

Publicity Report:

Library Report:

Dale Minard reported that he is working to obtain a set of Prototype Modeler Magazines and their predecessors for the library.

New Clinics:

SN3 Addition Status:

Dale Minard has reconstructed the train shed #1 and installed it. Mike Forys ordered a HO and N scale track rerailer, which will have to be modified to fit Sn3 to assist placing the Sn3 cars on the track.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

Mike Forys reported that from March 18th until April 15th the window buttons have been pushed 3,567 times. Windows 1 = 1,890, Windows 2 =1,667, average 127 per day over 28 days.

Old Business:

Club Mural:

The Mural barn door is painted and is awaiting mounting hardware.

Powell Yard:

Mike Forys created a sign for the yard and coal tower and is looking for feedback.

Window Layouts:

Mike Forys finished the stone retaining wall for the Liberty Loop Mesa and adjacent street.

New Business:

Lego Days:

The next Lego Build Day will be on April 29, 2023.

Future Events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, May 16th 2023 and June 20th 2023 and will be held at our clubhouse and on Zoom.

Jurassic Park:

The park is complete and has been well received by visitors.

Sound:

The club was asked to consider adding items such as button operated sound at appropriate locations around the layout.

Scavenger Hunt:

The mall is had a scavenger hunt on Saturday, April 8th. We opened at 11AM to support this event and entertained over 1037 visitors.

Streeterville:

After the meeting we moved the Easter display out and moved Streeterville into the window layout space.
