May 21, 2019 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the May club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Robert Graves, Raulf Polichar, Don Briggs, Alex Sibbald, Ken Sadlock, Dale Minard and Jerry Shiller.

Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Dale Minard featured four recently acquired train cars. Three of these were Pikesville Billboard Reefers and one was an American Models Hopper. Ken Sadlock brought in a box of train related books for the club. Jerry Shiller displayed photos of antique model trains that he shot at the National Museum of Copenhagen.

Treasurer’s Report:

Robert Graves reported that we received $264.39 from visitor donations in April. He reported that we had a monthly electric bill of $97.17.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar reported that we currently have 6 spare RF doorbell buttons for our window display. The test track that Raulf is building is nearly complete and should appear sometime next week. It will facilitate the testing of S, SN3, O, HO and N gauge trains. It will be used by the club to test our trains and visitors' trains. Raulf is planning to install controls that will eliminate the use of an extension cord between the window layouts.

New Clinics:

No new clinic ideas were suggested.

Streeterville:

The Streeterville layout returned to the window after Easter. We had 6 members move

it into place. There is a plan to upgrade several of the club's original and sometimes unreliable AC

locomotive motors with modern DC can motors. Alex Sibbald will order DC can motors to

accomplish this task.

SN3 Addition Status:

The SN3 layout has been moving ahead with the rebuilding of the missing section on the left side. Mike Forys has been recreating the scenery that had been lost before we took possession of the layout. Raulf Polichar has been gathering parts for the sound and control systems. The tables for the power units are complete and we are working on plans for the addition of background scenery.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 05/18/2019 the window layout button has been pushed 2,273 times since our last meeting, 129,779 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 169,261 times since day one. The low count for the month was partially due to button malfunction.
