March 16, 2021 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the March club meeting on Zoom at 10:00AM. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Ken Sadlock, Raulf Polichar, Robert Graves, Les Smith, Al Kiel, Dale Minard, Don Briggs, Scott Lewis, Wes Noel, John Racey and Alex Sibbald.


Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

John Racey showed us a lumber yard he had constructed. Al Kiel displayed a combination car on which he was trying to get decal advice. Les Smith presented a Lionel Train Set that he had for sale from the owner.


Treasurer’s Report:

This month Bob Graves reported $10.95 donation from Amazon Prime a clubhouse electric bill of $72.17 and $11.00 expense for stamps.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar and Mike Forys have been troubleshooting the slowdown exhibited at the tunnel entrance on the Liberty Loop Window Layout. Eventually cleaning the contacts on the connector between the two sides made a big difference.

SN3 Addition Status:

Ken Sadlock and Mike Forys are working on the stone wall. After completion the layout can be put back against the wall and work can commence on the front tracks. Mike Forys is developing an operating scenario for the layout.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 03/09/21 the Window Layout Button 1 has been pushed 710 times and Window Layout Button 2 has been pushed 1043 times for a total of 1,834 times since February 12th or 179,143 times since we first installed one at Grossmont Center and 219,471 times since day one.


Future events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, April 20th, 2021 and May 18th, 2021 and will be held at our clubhouse and on Zoom.


Clubhouse:

Mike Forys reported that the window layouts are working well and the buttons are operating. Raulf Polichar volunteered his DC, S-Scale, Corgi Trolley for use on the ceramic village window layout. Bob Graves added that the club has a number of donated, non-holiday related ceramic cottages that could be used as well in order to show something new and different.


Work Days:

One or two work days will be scheduled just before we reopen to prepare clubhouse for visitors. Mike Forys set a date for the first workday on March 25th at 10:00 AM and recruited helpers who have had their Covad vaccinations completed. He will assign a second work day if needed. A soft reopening of the clubhouse is tentatively set for April 3rd.

Club Librarian:

Dale Minard, the SDSG club librarian, reported completion of moving the magazine library files in pdf format to the cloud. He will email club members with access information and a password.

Club Business:

Mike Forys is checking with the liability policy insurance from the NMRA as to non-members operating the layout.

Other Items:

NMRA 2021 convention in Santa Clara July 4th to July 10th 2021 has been cancelled. A virtual convention is being setup on the same days for $49.00.

NASG convention in Buffalo, NY August 3 to August 7th is still on as of this day.

MTH HO and S scale lines have been bought by Scaletrains.com

MTH service centers will handle repairs until this summer.
