September 13, 2016 - Meeting Summary


The San Diego S Gaugers held the September club meeting at our clubhouse (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10:00am. Attendees were: Alex Sibbald, Raulf Polichar, Ken Sadlock, Dale Minard, Les Smith and Mike Forys.


Show and Tell:

Les Smith presented literature from his Railroad trip on the White Pass and Yukon Route and Alaska Railroad.

Treasurer’s Report:

Bob Graves’ report stated that we received $320.01 from visitor donations in August.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar continues to work on a modified control box for Liberty Loop. The next revision will start and stop the train at the train station.

Publicity Report:

Dale Minard brought in a potential “members wanted” sign for the front window. He also created a sign to invite people to bring in their Flyer trains for us to test for them.


Old Business:

SDSG Website:

Bob Graves is working to add new pictures, page counters, module descriptions and module photos.

PY3.5 (station expansion):

The module is ready for gluing down the track and the station platforms are in the works. (On hold)

T1 replacement frame:

The replacement frame is ready for track. (On hold)

New Gilbert Town Modules:

Two of the new Gilbert Town modules have track installed and scenery is in progress. The third module is ready for track. A #6 left hand turnout is needed for the outside main.


New Business:

Window Layout Success:

As of 09/10/2016 the window layout button has been pushed 2,636 times since our last meeting, 34,547 times since we installed it at Grossmont Center and 69,475 times since day one.

Future events:

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday October 18. The 2017 calendar will be discussed at this meeting. All meetings will be held at our Suite (304 on the mall map) in Grossmont Center at 10AM. Grossmont Center will be holding two Halloween events this year. On Saturday, October 29 the center will host a costume party. The mall management has invited us to put up a table display in front of Panera Bread on that occasion. On October 31 the center will be passing out candy. The members present voted to be open on the 31st, which is a Monday. Dale will talk to the mall marketing team to find out the operating hours for the Halloween events.

Winery:

Mike Forys has been working on the Winery scenery on the bridge module. He is looking for a name for the Winery.

La Mesa Courier:

The article depicting the club and its activities did appear in the August edition of the La Mesa Courier. We already have had visitors tell us that they found out about us from the cover article.

Additional Window layout:

Mike Forys has constructed and wired the additional table. It is ready for the Upsonite top layer. Raulf Polichar has agreed to cut the Upsonite necessary. Mike has been in touch with the Lego Museum of North County and they would like to participate by providing scenery for the new window display as well as L gauge Lego Trains and Lego Museum items. They have suggested a Lego design day for visitors to be held outside our clubhouse. It remains to be determined how much of their items and ideas will be incorporated.

Future Train Shows:

A discussion on attending the Pomona World’s Greatest Hobby show and the Great train show next February was held.

It was decided that attendance at WGH would be left to the individual member. Some ideas of what the club can do at the GTE were discussed.

Other Items:

Mike Forys will be absent on 9/17, 9/20 and 10/15.
