July 22, 2020 - Meeting Summary

The San Diego S-Gaugers held the July club meeting on Zoom, a computer at home video session at 10:00AM. Attendees were: Mike Forys, Ken Sadlock, Alex Sibbald, Raulf Polichar, Robert Graves, Wes Noel, Scott Lewis and was hosted by Les Smith.

Introduction of new faces / Show and Tell:

Wes Noel showed us his operational N scale layout that he has been working on. Scott Lewis was introduced to the club as a new member. Scott has been part of the San Diego Model Train Community for years and is a member of several clubs. He was at the National City Train Station and showed us the O scale layout there during its operation. Mike Forys has clear acetate and self-sticking mirror sheets available for members to use.

Treasurer’s Report:

Robert Graves stated that there were no visitor donations due to closure of the display. He stated that our electric bill was $74.00 for the month.

Standards Report:

Raulf Polichar reported that the Grossmont Central cars are waiting paint and we need new traction tires for our engine repair efforts. Raulf reported that a new Digitrax DCC Controller is available that improves status visibility. The club voted to spend approximately $230.00 to buy one.

SN3 Addition Status:

Mike Forys reported that the backdrop effort is complete but the back track still needs work. Raulf Polichar stated that he has a box of unfinished SN3 project locomotives for anyone interested.

Window Layout Success and Visitor Attendance:

As of 07/17/2020 the Window Layout Button 1 has been pushed 1,022 times and Window Layout Button 2 has been pushed 954 times for a total of 1,976 times since our last meeting, 165,301 times since we first installed one at Grossmont Center and 205,629 times since day one.

Fire Extinguisher:

Time for the annual check.

Future events:

The next meetings will be on Tuesdays, August 18 and September 22 and will be held on Zoom unless shopping center status changes.


Clubhouse:

The clubhouse is available to members for work or to run trains. Notify Mike Forys and he will reserve the timeslot for you and he will notify other members via email.


NMRA:

The club is looking for a volunteer to represent our club at four of the NMRA meetings (non layout tours) this year. 2nd Saturday of February, May, August and November as soon as in-house meetings begin.


Work Days:

The club will have a work day to clean and prepare clubhouse before reopening. It was suggested that we combine a work day with an Op Session.

Liberty Loop window layout:

Mike is looking for someone to create a fall scene on an insert for the Liberty Loop Layout. A blank insert is available for decorating.

Opening Clubhouse:

Mike Forys stated that the air conditioner service was due and the club discussed the potential solutions to a stagnant air situation. Mike Forys will investigate filter options for our unit.

Lego Build Event:

The August 29 Lego day will probably be cancelled. Lego window display is still not running.

Club Exhibit Insurance:

Mike Forys stated that our new blanket inventory insurance policy for the layouts has been received and is in effect.
